The Cinema is an institution in Munich: located roughly between Hofbräukeller and Munich's beer garden classic Augustiner Biergarten, this cinema shows only English speaking films in the original version without subtitles, in a great atmosphere: its faithful fans occasionally queue up for tickets for days and dress up for showings of special cult films. Mathäser
Mathäser is the most modern cinema in Munich right now. It has been reopened after renovations in 2003 and is now a city of film itself: Blockbusters are shown on 14 screens, there are cafés, bars and a lounge. One or two films are shown in English every week. Sneak preview night is Wednesday night. Tickets can be booked online. Fully accessible for wheelchairs.

Maxim Kino
The Maxim Kino is probably the most special cinema in Munich. For one, no ads are shown before the film presentation! Furthermore, the program is ambitious: art films, documentaries, political films and films by newcomers are shown in their original version. And the prices are unbeatable: Only 5 Euros per ticket. Of course you mustn't expect the latest comforts of cinema technology here, but a unique atmosphere and interesting films.

Museum Lichtspiele
The Museum Lichtspiele have a long tradition in Munich. Located next to the Deutsches Museum, between S-Bahn stations Rosenheimer Platz and Isartor, this small, snug old style cinema shows blockbusters as well as art films. All films are shown in their original version. They also hold a very special record: they have shown the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" daily for 27 years now. Fully accessible for wheelchairs.

Cineasts praise the Theatiner Film as Munich's best cinema. Comfort isn't great here, but the program makes up for it: International treasures of film are shown in their original version. Though the main focus lies on French cinema, there are also many films shown in English. Located between Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz.
